LSA 601 | SNOWSCAPES

SnowScapes was a studio project that asked us to explore how snow transforms landscapes. There are many patterns and processes that come with a snowfall.

I studied snow banks; What factors build them up? What is their composition? What is the landscape that snow banks leave behind?

Video of my SnowScapes Project Intervention. I used a shovel and recycling bin to simulate a snow plow clearing snow from the road. Each row being “plowed” was composed of various materials. The composition of each row was then looked at to see how different materials can affect the formation of a snow bank.

This video resembles how a daily winter task can appear tedious, strenuous, and perhaps even mysterious and beautiful. As the snow is being moved and manipulated, as if it were being plowed, layers form to create unique patterns and colors.
